Crayfish rescued during road repairs in Cumbria
- Published
A group of crayfish was just one of the problems encountered by workmen repairing a stretch of flood-damaged road in Cumbria.
A culvert under the road at Scarrowmanwick, near Carlisle, collapsed leaving a large deep hole, following torrential rain on 28 June.
During repair work the nearby beck was still in full flow and about 50 crayfish were washed into the puddle.
Eden Rivers Trust was called in to rescue them. The road has now reopened.
