A man was seriously injured when he fell from a crag in the Lake District.

The Wasdale Mountain Rescue Team was called to Broad Stand on Scafell on Sunday afternoon after the climber fell 100ft (30m).

A Royal Navy rescue helicopter attended, but due to the location was not able to winch him from the scene.

Members of the public assisted the rescue volunteers in carrying him to a waiting air ambulance and he was flown to the major trauma centre in Preston.

He had sustained serious head, chest and leg injuries.
