Thousands of Cumbrian homes lose power after strong winds

Cumbria Police have been dealing with a number of fallen trees
Thousands of homes and businesses across Cumbria were left without electricity after high winds damaged overhead power lines.
Areas affected included Workington, Whitehaven, Wigton, Carlisle, Bowness-on-Windermere and Kendal.
Northern Rail said earlier it had suspended train services between Sellafield and Millom.
Electricity North West said the number of properties without power peaked at around 10,000.
On the roads, the B5299 at Lingley close junction has reopened after an incident with a fallen tree. It is the main road between Carlisle and Dalston.
The Environment Agency warned of possible flooding along the Cumbrian coast at lunchtime high tide with the worst surges expected to be in the south of the county.
High winds have led to the National Trust closing Sizergh Castle near Kendal.
