A council that scrapped its chief executive's post has given him a £120,000 pay-off.
Copeland borough councillors voted to make Paul Walker's post redundant and share his duties among other directors.
His final salary and redundancy payment of £119,321 would be funded through efficiency savings, the authority said.
The redundancy was proposed by the borough's elected mayor Mike Starkie, who told councillors it would save the council £142,287 a year.
