Ullswater "Steamers" were now offering the full winter service, a spokeswoman said

A Lake District pleasure boat has taken passengers on to the water for the first time since recent storms hit Cumbria.

The Ullswater "Steamers" have been forced to stay docked for six weeks.

They were "a vital part of the local tourism infrastructure", connecting well-known walking routes, Cumbria Tourism said.

"Steamers" marketing manager Rachel Bell said it was "vital" the area got back to normal as quickly as possible.

"It's really important for our local communities that we get the message out there that the Ullswater Valley is open for business," she said.

The company said it had "got off relatively lightly", with damage only to one vessel stern and facilities at Glenridding, Pooley Bridge Pier and Pier House.
