Maryport street parking changes proposed by council
- Published
Drivers will be allowed to stay for shorter periods as part of proposals for parking changes on a busy street.
Also among changes planned by Cumberland Council to Senhouse Street, Maryport, is making bays near Curzon Street parallel instead of diagonal.
It said the changes would reduce the amount of traffic which currently spills on to Curzon Street and create "faster turnover of vehicles".
People are being asked to give their views on the plans.
Currently, drivers using the disc parking bays are allowed to park for one hour but under the changes this would be reduced to 30 minutes.
The council said this would facilitate "convenient shopping trips". Drivers will still be able to park for longer at the free Mill Street Disc car park.
Existing diagonal bays on the north end of Senhouse Street will be made parallel, while new parallel bays will be made on the south side of the street. The changes would create one extra parking space.
Additional planting, seating and signage will be installed on Senhouse Street as part of the changes. The proposals will be funded by the Government's Future High Street fund.
The public are being asked to have their say on the proposed changes.
