The council says there is no power available to the Ulverston library

A library which was forced to close after an electrical fault was discovered may need "significant refurbishment", a council has said.

Customers have been unable to use the service on King's Road in Ulverston, Cumbria since early September.

Westmorland and Furness Council said the issues were "extensive" and did not yet know the full repair costs.

A temporary library has been set up at The Coro with further space to be created at Ulverston Indoor Market.

Peter Thornton, Cabinet Member for Highways and Assets, said the council was reviewing "all options" for returning to the building.

As part of the plans, the building may need to be fully rewired while existing heating systems would be upgraded.

There is currently no power available at the site.

Mr Thornton said: "The council is keen to stress that we are committed to delivering a library service befitting a town of Ulverston's importance.

"Ulverston is one of our most important libraries and as part of the options work we will also be looking at any opportunities to enhance and expand its library offer."
