Plans to refurbish a Cumbrian leisure centre have been approved.
Cumberland Council said a new play centre and studio spaces would be installed at Maryport's Wave Centre as part of a £5.2m revitalisation of the town.
Improvements would also be made to the centre's climbing attractions and gym, a council spokesman said.
The council previously said it was hoped, external the work would be completed by the summer of 2024.
The £2.3m Wave Centre scheme would be a "bold step forwards" in Maryport's "transformation", council leader Mark Fryer said.
He said the plan was a response to local people who had called for "more facilities for children and young people".
Mr Fryer said further planning applications would be submitted in January for a splash park, outdoor event space, improved play area and "amazing" new promenade café and beach shop.
"These are exciting times in Maryport," Mr Fryer said.
Kimberley Corrall, associate architect for the Wave's architectural contractor Buttress, said: "The Wave will play a pivotal role in transforming Maryport town centre, aligning with the vision for improved infrastructure, vibrant high streets, and sustained economic vitality."
