Trouble halts Derbyshire school bus service

A bus company has partly suspended a service to a Derbyshire school for two days after telling students their behaviour was unacceptable.

Hawkes buses runs two double-deckers from John Port School in Etwall to Hilton but has refused to take under-16s until Thursday.

The company declined to comment but the school said it would act if troublemakers were identified.

The county council said it had spoken to both parties to find a solution.

'Occasional incidents'

Business manager at the school, Graham Golding, said they had spoken to the students.

"They have been told what the problem is and that if the behaviour on the bus does not improve it looks at though Hawkes is going to withdraw the service, so it's in their hands.

"And if we get specific information about particular students on the bus, we will take action on that information."

The county council, which also runs some of the other bus services to the school, said: "We are aware of the incidents on the bus and have spoken to the company and the school about resolving the issue of bad behaviour by pupils.

"Generally, behaviour on schools buses is ok, with occasional incidents.

"If there are any problems, the company will usually ask the school to deal with it."
