Derbyshire hit by road and school closures over snow

Buxton has been hard hit by the snowy weather

Roads and schools in Derbyshire, including the Peak District, remain closed due to snowy and icy conditions.

More than 200 schools were closed in the county due to poor weather conditions with many confirming they will remain closed on Friday.

The A57 Snake Pass is closed in both directions between the Hurst Road junction in Glossop and the A6013.

Hazardous driving conditions are predicted to continue with temperatures falling as low as -10C (18F).

Earlier, problems were reported on the M1 between junction 30 for the A616 Sheffield and junction 28 for the A38 Alfreton.

Road closures

The Avenue in Stoney Middleton on the A623 is closed in both directions around The Bank junction and the A54 is closed between Bosley Crossroads and the A537 junction in Buxton, because of snow.

Hazardous driving conditions have also been reported the A515 in both directions between the A52 junction in Ashbourne and the A53 junction in Buxton and on the A617 in both directions between the M1 junction 29 in Heath and Mansfield because of ice and snow.

The A623 in Dove Holes is closed and there are hazardous driving conditions in both directions between the A6 Higher Hallsteads junction and the the turn for Sparrowpit junction.

The A6024 Holme Moss Road in High Peak is also closed in both directions from Woodhead Reservoir.
