Sleetmoor Woods murder suspect released without charge

A man who was being questioned over the murder of a 25-year-old woman in Derbyshire has been released.

Jia Ashton was found in Sleetmoor Woods, Somercotes, near Alfreton, on Sunday afternoon. She had died as the result of an assault.

The 26-year-old man, who had been in custody since Sunday, was released without charge just before 1700 GMT.

Police have asked anyone who saw Mrs Ashton after she left work on 10 March to come forward.

Det Supt Terry Branson said: "The last positive sighting of Mrs Ashton was on Thursday evening, March 10, just after 5pm when she left work at Thorntons.

"The investigation team wants to hear from anyone who was in Sleetmoor Woods, walking on the footpath known as the 'Yellow Brick Road' or in the neighbouring areas between 4pm and 7pm on that evening."

Derbyshire Police said Mrs Ashton had been reported missing on Friday evening by her husband.

Her body was found by Derby Mountain Rescue volunteers and a search dog.

Police added there was no evidence a weapon had been used and there was no apparent sexual assault.
