Thousands of tonnes of wood and waste has been destroyed in a fire at a recycling plant in Derbyshire.

Emergency crews were called to the fire on Lows Lane in Stanton-by-Dale, near Ilkeston, at about 22:30 BST on Saturday.

About 8,000 tonnes of material was alight, causing thick black smoke to drift across the motorway.

Firefighters are continuing to work to keep the fire under control and are advising motorists to take extra care.

Residents living near the scene are advised to keep their doors and windows closed.

Junctions 25 and 26 of the M1 are affected by the blaze.

It is expected firefighters will remain on site for the next few days.
