A clean-up operation is under way after about 200 litres of oil spilled into the Erewash River in Derbyshire.

The spill, in a stretch of the river off Bennett Street in Long Eaton near the Erewash Canal, was spotted by a member of the public.

Booms and pads have been put into the water to soak it up, an Environment Agency spokesman said.

Investigators from the agency are taking samples and trying to determine the source of the spill.
