BBC Radio Derby building named after Colin Bloomfield

The building, currently known as 56 St Helen's Street, will be named Bloomfield House

BBC Radio Derby is to rename its building in honour of presenter Colin Bloomfield, who died from skin cancer.

His mother, Alison, has been invited to unveil the newly-christened Bloomfield House on 25 April, the first anniversary of his death.

He spent ten years with the station, where he was breakfast show presenter at the time he was diagnosed with stage four melanoma.

Mr Bloomfield, 33, died at a hospice in his home county of Shropshire.

Radio Derby editor Simon Cornes said: "Colin spent so much time here working on his programmes that we thought it would be really fitting to name the building after him.

"It will mean a great deal to everyone here to come to work each day in Bloomfield House."

The presenter also lent his name to the Colin Bloomfield Melanoma Appeal which has raised more than £152,000.
