People have been asked to stay away from part of Derbyshire as firefighters continue to tackle a large moorland fire.

The fire is burning between Crowden and Glossop in an area measuring about four square miles.

Firefighters are "water bombing" the area using a helicopter, and using beaters to put out the flames.

They expect to continue fighting the fire overnight and possibly over the next few days.

People have been asked to keep their windows and doors closed due to large amounts of smoke being created by the fire.

The warning extends to Stalybridge, Greater Manchester.

The fire is on moorland next to the A628, and the cause is not yet known.

Firefighters have been helped by water company United Utilities and local gamekeepers.
