Children are being invited to send letters to Santa in a huge postbox, described as the UK's largest.

The 6m (19ft) tall structure has been placed at The Spot, St Peters Quarter, in Derby city centre.

Measuring taller than an average double-decker bus, the postbox illuminates when a letter is posted.

It has been installed as part of an initiative between the quarter's business improvement district (BID) and Derby City Council.

Brad Worley, manager for St Peters Quarter BID, said: "Posting a letter to Santa is a classic Yuletide tradition, and what better place to do it than at the UK's largest postbox?

"We're sure this eye-catching - and frankly unmissable - addition to Derby's streets will help to bring some extra festive cheer to the city this Christmas."

A giant snow globe, festive musical acts and stilt walkers are among the other attractions that will make an appearance in Derby in the build-up to Christmas.

Shoppers are also being encouraged to vote for their favourite festive window display, with more than 30 businesses across the city decorating their windows as part of the Window Wonderland competition.
