New sports facilities are being planned in four parks in Derby.

Derby City Council has outlined proposals to create "PlayZones" in Caxton Park, Dale Road Park, Knightsbridge Recreation Ground, and Stockbrook Recreation Ground.

The council said it wanted to help people living nearby to improve their fitness.

It is hoped the new facilities will also encourage more disabled people and women and girls to take up sport.

Under the plans, existing multi-use games areas could be renovated or entirely new sports courts could be built.

The council said the new sports facilities would be accessible using an app, to improve safety and could be block-booked by clubs and community groups.

Hardyal Dhindsa, the council's cabinet member for communities and street pride, said: "The initiative to introduce PlayZones represents a significant step towards fostering community engagement and enhancing recreational spaces for residents."

The council said it was unable to confirm how much the scheme would cost at this stage.

However, it said it would be applying for grants from the Premier League, the FA, and Sport England to fund 75% of the final cost.

An eight-week consultation on the scheme has been launched ahead of funding bids.
