Creswell: Murder investigation after man assaulted near pub

A murder investigation has been launched after the death of a man who was attacked near a pub.

Derbyshire Police said David Thompson suffered serious injuries when he was assaulted near Ours Bar in Elmton Road, Creswell, on 27 January.

The 50-year-old was taken to hospital in a critical condition but died on Thursday, the force said.

Mr Thompson's family paid tribute to him saying he "would do anything for anybody".

Police would like to hear from anyone who was near Ours Bar when Mr Thompson was attacked.

Detectives are appealing for information about what happened when Mr Thompson, who was from Creswell, was injured at about 01:30 GMT.

Det Insp Maria Pleace said: "It is vital that we fully understand what happened that evening and the timeline to an assault which appears to have left David with injuries he wasn't able to recover from and tragically proved fatal."

Mr Thompson's daughter, Emma Thompson said: "Even though Dad was 50, he was full of life and enjoyed spending time with his family. He would do anything for anybody."

She urged anyone with information to contact the police.
