Watch: Cockerel rescued after flying into woman's car

A woman has helped to rehome a cockerel after it flew through her car window.

Jessica Matthews was driving home to Aston-on-Trent, in Derbyshire, when she noticed the bird at the side of the road.

After she slowed down and wound her window open to check that the bird was OK, it flew into the car and made its way on to the passenger seat, she said.

Ms Matthews tried contacting farmers in the surrounding area and put out an appeal on Facebook, before deciding to bring the cockerel home as darkness fell.

The next day Ms Matthews said she made contact with a man in Castle Donington, Leicestershire, who offered to rehome the bird, which she affectionately named Barry.

"It was really hard to give him away actually because he was really nice," she said. "A lovely little bird."
