Personnel from a Plymouth-based Royal Navy warship have been training with the Pakistan Navy.
HMS Cornwall and the Pakistan warship PNS Shahjahan met in the Gulf of Aden in the Arabian Sea.
HMS Cornwall is involved in sea security throughout the Middle East, and crews from both warships exchanged skills when they met.
The Pakistan warship was formerly a Royal Navy frigate, and was involved in the Falklands war.
HMS Cornwall's commanding officer Commander David Wilkinson said: "Our links with the Pakistan Navy have always been strong."
Samuel Cassidy is an engineering technician on HMS Cornwall.
His father was part of the team which handed over several Royal Navy warships to the Pakistan Navy.
Engineering Technician Cassidy said: "It was amazing being in a ship that my father knew so well and that I had visited as a little boy - the memories came flooding back.
"It was great to see her in such good shape and at the centre of Pakistan Navy operations."
HMS Cornwall left Devonport on 28 October 2010 on an anti-piracy patrol that will last six months.
