Emergency services were alerted after Neil Murray failed to return on time

Tributes have been paid in Parliament to the husband of a Cornish MP who died in a suspected fishing accident.

The body of trawlerman Neil Murray, 57, was found on his boat last Friday after he went out to sea alone from Looe.

His wife, South East Cornwall Conservative MP Sheryll Murray, issued a statement last week saying he was "dearly loved by family and friends".

The Commons tributes were led by work secretary Iain Duncan Smith.

Mr Duncan Smith said: "I'd like to take the opportunity to offer my condolences to the member for South East Cornwall, and I'm sure the whole House will join me."

Mrs Murray who was elected in 2010, had been due to speak in Parliament on Monday, but did not attend.

Mr Murray's boat, Our Boy Andrew, was found with his body on board after a search found the vessel about 25 miles (40km) south of Fowey.

The Marine Accident Investigation Branch is investigating.

The couple have two children, Andrew, a marine electronics engineer, and Sally, an officer in the Royal Navy.
