Hundreds object to Ashburton Co-op supermarket

Independent traders in Ashburton fear for their future

Hundreds of people have objected to plans for a Co-op store on the outskirts of a Devon town.

Dartmoor National Park Authority, which will consider the plan for Ashburton on Friday, has received 264 objection letters and seven letters of support.

Objectors fear the store, close to the Linhay junction of the A38, would kill off the town's independent shops.

The Co-op, which already has a convenience store in the town, said a new store would not affect local shops.
