Devon unemployment rises with more jobless claimants

The number of people out of work and claiming jobseeker's allowance in Devon, Torbay and Plymouth has risen.

The Office for National Statistics (ONS) figure for Devon was 9,104 - 249 more than June, representing 2% of the population.

In Torbay there were 3,291 claimants - up from 3274 in June (4.1%), while in Plymouth the figure rose by 202 to 6,686 (3.8%).

Across the UK, the number of claimants rose by 37,100 to 1.56 million.

It is the biggest rise for more than two years and the third consecutive monthly rise.
