A sailor has been rescued from a vessel which sank off the south Devon coast, Brixham Coastguard has said.

The 9ft (2.7m) fishing boat sank off Bigbury Bay earlier. Two flares were released from it.

A lifeboat crew from Plymouth attended the incident and rescued the person on board. The person's condition is not currently known.

A helicopter from RAF Chivenor was also sent to the scene at about 13:30 GMT, the coastguard added.

Fishing boats in the area reportedly released flares to help the lifeboat locate the ship and placed liferafts in the water.
