Devon County Council parking management investigated

Police are investigating parking enforcement work by Devon County Council, the BBC has learnt.

Devon and Cornwall Police said officers from the economic crime unit had been involved in the investigation looking at the management of civil parking.

Responsibility for parking enforcement switched from the police to the county council in 2008.

Devon County Council said some discrepancies were found in parking restrictions and had been rectified.

It said: "In a very few individual cases where discrepancies have been found in restrictions, such as a signs being incorrectly placed or lines not drawn exactly in position, we have rectified the issue and offered a refund to any motorist who has been fined."

Police said the council was assisting in the investigation.
