Dartmoor Prison's Storybook Dads scheme wins award

The audio book scheme, which started in Dartmoor Prison, is now used around the world

An audio book scheme which started in a Devon prison has won an award for inclusion.

Storybook Dads, which started at Dartmoor Prison, enables imprisoned parents to record a story and send it to their children.

The scheme won an e-inclusion award at the European Commission's Digital Agenda Assembly Conference in Brussels.

Storybook Dads is now used in 100 UK prisons as well as in Poland, Denmark, Hungary, America and Australia.

Sharon Berry, the founder of Storybook Dads, said: "To have our work recognised by the European Commission is a great honour.

"The link we provide between parents and their children can be a lifeline to many of the 160,000 children who experience the imprisonment of a parent each year in the UK."

More than 35 countries were involved in the conference which was held to raise awareness of using digital technology to tackle social and digital exclusion across Europe.
