Police fine 330 Devon drivers over mobile phone use

More than 300 people were caught by police for using their mobile phones while driving in Devon during the summer, figures show.

Between 1 July and 31 August, 332 fixed penalty tickets were issued by Devon and Cornwall Police officers.

The notices carry a £60 fine and three points on driving licences.

In Cornwall, 121 notices were issued during the same period, bringing the force area total of tickets up to 453 for the two months.

Insp Richard Pryce, of Devon and Cornwall Police, added that some drivers caught were "not necessarily making calls".

He said: "Some were updating a Facebook page, or using Twitter. Those sorts of things, which is a real concern."
