Strong winds bring down trees in parts of Devon

Rain and strong winds overnight have brought trees down on roads in parts of Devon.

The Met Office said wind speeds had reached 60 to 70 miles per hour in some areas.

Devon County Council said it has teams dealing with incidents in Chagford, Manaton and Belstone on Dartmoor, Vaughan Road, Exeter, and Cullompton.

A road in Manaton is blocked, while the other roads are passable with care, according to the council.

Hugh Griffith, from the county council, said: "The wind is going to be with us for a while but hopefully the rain will ease.

"It looks like showery rain so hopefully we will have a bit of respite."

The region has 13 flood warnings in place and 48 flood alerts, according to the Environment Agency, external website.
