One man has died after being pulled from the sea off Torquay, police have confirmed.

Emergency services were called to Babbacombe at about 14:00 BST after two men in their mid-20s were pulled from the water by a lifeboat crew.

The pair, whom police believe to be holidaymakers, were taken to Torbay District Hospital.

The condition of the second man has not been confirmed. The deceased man's next of kin have been informed.

Devon and Cornwall Police has appealed for witnesses and warned anyone entering the sea to be "aware of the conditions and take extra care".

In a separate incident, also in Torquay, a 26-year-old man suffered serious injuries after falling into the water near The Imperial hotel on Parkhill Road.

The Met Office is reporting moderate to rough sea conditions, particularly on the south coast.
