The unloaded rifle was lost in July on Dartmoor

An unloaded military rifle lost during a Royal Marine training exercise on Dartmoor three months ago has been found.

The Royal Navy said the standard-issue SA-80 rifle was recovered by personnel from Lympstone-based Commando Training Centre Royal Marines - the same outfit which lost it.

They said the condition of the weapon was being assessed.

The Ministry of Defence said in July an investigation had been launched.

A Royal Navy spokesperson said: "We can confirm that the unloaded SA-80 rifle lost on the Dartmoor training area in the summer has been recovered by personnel from Commando Training Centre Royal Marines."

The standard issue rifle was misplaced during a leadership course in July 2023.
