A teenager was stabbed in a busy city centre park in an incident involving several other teenagers.

A 17-year-old boy was taken to hospital with stab wounds after the stabbing in Beaumont Park in Plymouth.

A 17-year-old girl also suffered injuries to her face during the incident involving five teens in total at about 15:25 GMT on Thursday.

Police said a boy and a girl from Plymouth, both 17, had been arrested and released on bail.

Officers said the incident happened near the hut near the park's entrance at the corner of Tothill Avenue and Lipson Road.

The boy who was stabbed had non-life-threatening injuries and has been discharged from hospital.

Police said the girl who suffered facial injuries was not stabbed.

Appeal for witnesses

A statement from the force said a 17-year-old girl was arrested on suspicion of assault occasioning grievous bodily harm with intent while a 17-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of assault, occasioning actual bodily harm.

Officers recovered a knife from the scene, which police said was "busy" at the time of the incident.

An appeal for witnesses has been issued with officers keen to hear from anyone who saw a woman walking away from the park with blood on her.

Anyone with information has been asked to contact police or Crimestoppers.
