Police said the new cameras use a video-based system
A new two-way speed camera has been installed in a Devon town after residents called for a safer road, Paignton Police said.
Police said the camera had replaced the old Gatso camera on Dartmouth Road in Paignton.
Gatso cameras use radar technology to measure how fast a vehicle is travelling, according to Speed Cameras UK, external.
Police said the new "spot camera" could now track two-way traffic.
They also said it did not require painted lines on the road as it used infra-red low-light technology and it no longer flashes when triggered.
On Facebook, Paignton Police said: "Residents on Dartmouth Road have been asking for something like this for some time and it should help improve road safety and see a reduction in speeds in the area. "
The video element of the new cameras means drivers could be prosecuted for other offences such as using mobile phones or not wearing a seatbelt.
