Torridge people 'fear driving' on potholed roads
- Published
A Torridge councillor has called for urgent action to improve the roads and footpaths in the district.
People were "becoming isolated because they are not confident to be able to travel on our A roads", Lyndon Piper told councillors.
He said there were also problems with drainage, road markings, cats eyes and pathway maintenance that caused flooding, ice and accidents.
He asked for Devon County Council (DCC) highways officers to discuss solutions.
"Blocked gullies create huge floods across A roads, followed by freezing conditions," he told a full council meeting.
"In my ward, we have accidents caused by flooding followed a week later by accidents caused by ice."
He added that footpaths were "becoming impassable", said the Local Democracy Reporting Service (LDRS).
"Seventy-two per cent of our council tax goes to DCC, and I'm concerned that we are not getting what we need and pay for when it comes to highways and footpaths," he said.
"We need to shout about it."
DCC has been approached for comment.
