A yellow weather warning for heavy rain has been issued across the south west for Friday.

The Met Office alert is in force for the region from midnight until 15:00 GMT.

Between 10-15mm of rain was anticipated to fall widely, with some areas seeing up to 30mm.

The Met Office said some snow was "likely" to affect some higher routes and communities for a brief time.

It said much of the rain would fall within three hours and travel disruption was "probable".

Devon County Council's highways team said gritters would be on roads across the county overnight.

The council has urged motorists to "take care and drive to the conditions".
