Film captured by a photographer from Plymouth of the evacuation of Kabul in 2021 could win a British Academy of Film and Television Arts (Bafta) award.

Evacuation, featuring work by Ben Shread, has been nominated for the award for Best Factual Series.

About 15,000 British nationals and eligible Afghans were evacuated from Kabul in the military undertaking, codenamed Operation Pitting.

Mr Shread said winning the award would be a "recognition of those involved".

The Royal Navy petty officer, who has since retired from service, said he spent the majority of his naval career in Plymouth, serving on ships such as HMS Albion and HMS Bulwark.

His work in Kabul over the period in the late summer of 2021 earned him Royal Navy Photographer of the Year - the highest honour his branch could award.

Mr Shread said: "It's an honour that is not given to many and I'm grateful I could have some part in telling the stories of our servicemen and women on the ground.

"However, it's crucial to acknowledge that this documentary wouldn't exist without the courageous efforts of the servicemen and women on the ground.

"Their bravery and sacrifice are at the heart of this story, and it's an honour to have been able to share their experiences through our footage."

The documentary, spread over three episodes, aired on Channel 4 last year.

The Bafta Television Awards will be aired on 12 May.
