Devon woman completes marathon litter-pick around Brixham

A woman has walked the distance of a marathon picking up litter.

Hannah Beaumont, 27, covered 26 miles (42km) around Brixham in Devon, collecting 17 bags of rubbish over 14 and a half hours, including disposable vapes and car parts.

She said she was known by her friends as the "dog poo bag fairy" but she said cleaning up was "a part of me".

Ms Beaumont is also running the London Marathon, with money from both challenges going to charity.

She said: "Sometimes it does dishearten me, but knowing that you've cleaned an area and made it that bit nicer, it always makes you feel worth it."

"Knowing I'm helping the environment, even if it's a little bit, every bag counts."

'Who I am'

Ms Beaumont walked between 07:00 and 21:30 GMT on Friday.

She said she was inspired to start litter-picking by her grandparents, who would collect rubbish in Yorkshire with her when she was a child.

The money raised from her litter marathon and the London marathon will go to the Sue Ryder managed Manorlands Hospice, who looked after her grandmother before she died.

Ms Beaumont said her friends think she is "mad" for her commitment to clearing up.

"I'm known as like the dog poo bag fairy, but I think they wouldn't see me any other way now," she said.

"It's who I am, it's a part of me, with bigger and better challenges to come."
