Lyme Regis sea rescue: Children fall from inflatable

The family was on holiday from the Midlands

A mother swam out to rescue her two children after they fell out of an inflatable toy boat off a Dorset beach.

The alarm was raised just before 1400 BST at Lyme Regis when the 11-year-old boy and eight-year-old girl were spotted in the water.

HM Coastguard received several calls from members of the public and the RNLI inshore lifeboat was launched.

The family, who were on holiday from the Midlands, managed to make their way to shore before rescuers arrived.

Tom Wright, from Portland Coastguard, said inflatable toy boats could easily be blown out to sea.

"Whilst the units were en route, a further report was received that the woman and the two children had managed to make the shore safely," he said.

"The lifeboat was stood down but the coastguards continued in order to establish whether any medical assistance was required.

"The children were found to be unharmed and they were all given safety advice."
