Bournemouth's Winter Gardens plans refused

Plans included a cinema, restaurants, a hotel and residential apartments

Plans for a £150m redevelopment of Bournemouth's Winter Gardens site have been refused by councillors.

The outline plans for the former concert hall site included a cinema, restaurants, a hotel and residential apartments.

The application for the five-acre site on Exeter Road was submitted by Planning Solutions Partnership.

Partner Tony Ramsden said he hoped to resubmit revised plans in January for a decision in March.

Mr Ramsden said the councillors' prime concerns were about the bulk and the height of the building and that contractual obligations meant Planning Solutions were unable to name the leisure provider lined up to occupy the development.

Planning Solutions previously said the development would create more than 1,000 jobs.

The Winter Gardens, which once hosted the Beatles and the Rolling Stones, closed in 2002 and the building was demolished in 2006.
