Diamond Jubilee 40,000-piece jigsaw world record bid

A Dorset craftsman has completed his attempt to set a new world record by creating the largest hand-cut, wooden jigsaw puzzle.

The 40,000-piece jigsaw by Dave Evans, of Guest Book Puzzles, Weymouth features 33 images of the Queen's Diamond Jubilee last year.

It took 35 days to complete and will now go on show at the Sandringham Estate in Norfolk until November.

Guinness World Records said it takes up to six weeks to verify an attempt.

Mr Evans, who started making puzzles in 1952, said he was donating his 19ft 6in (6m) by 8ft (2.5m) work to Help For Heroes to be auctioned following its exhibition at the Royal residence.

It will be displayed alongside 100,000 cards sent to the Queen to mark her Diamond Jubilee.

A Guinness World Records spokeswoman confirmed no record currently exists for the largest hand-cut, wooden jigsaw puzzle.

For a new entry to be created the work had to be at least 10,000 pieces.
