Talks to end long dispute at Essex Fire Service stall

  • Published

Talks have stalled between the Fire Brigades Union (FBU) and the Essex Fire and Rescue Service to end a long-running industrial dispute.

The row over job cuts and changes to working practices began in August. Union members have at times refused to do overtime and voluntary duties.

The FBU has accused managers of planning to cut 49 firefighter posts.

The Fire and Rescue Service said it cannot guarantee to protect all jobs because of 10% cuts, equal to £7.5m.

A deal was struck on 22 June and both parties were about to finalise it when the agreement broke down.
