Central Bedfordshire Council travel expenses revealed
- Published
Staff at a council in Bedfordshire claimed nearly £900,000 on travel expenses over the past six months, new figures have shown.
The 2,922 people who work for Central Bedfordshire Council each received £307 on average.
The figures were released by the council after a Freedom of Information request.
The council said it was bringing in measures to reduce the amount spent on travel expenses.
Councillor Maurice Jones, portfolio holder for finance, said the council was introducing flexible working practices, telephone conferencing, home working and webcasting to help cut costs.
He said these should "reduce the amount of time and money spent on council officers travelling across the area for work".
