Southend East railway station £1.5m upgrade completed

A new ticket office has been built on the south side of the station

A £1.5m upgrade of a railway station in Essex has been completed.

The revamp of the C2C-managed Southend East station, which was funded by the National Stations Improvement Programme, has taken nine months.

Work has included a new station entrance, a new ticket office on the south side of the station, as well as improvements to platforms and lighting.

Extra CCTV has also been installed and more cycle parking has been built with money from Southend Borough Council.

The new-look station was officially opened by the mayor of Southend.

The station is one of 26 on the Shoeburyness to Fenchurch Street line.

C2C managing director Julian Drury said: "This significant investment at Southend East demonstrates our commitment to upgrading our stations.

"We have met [customers'] aspirations, which were for better ticketing facilities and information, improved security and more cycle parking."
