Essex Police's handling of a call about a man seen walking by a major road who was later found dead is to be investigated by a watchdog.
The incident concerns the death of Kyle Brooks, 28, from Harlow, who was struck by vehicles on the A12 near Hatfield Peverel on 30 October.
Officers went to find the man during the early hours, but could not locate him. His body was later found.
The Independent Police Complaints Commission said it would investigate.
The watchdog's commissioner Mary Cunneen said: "We will be examining communication between police call handlers and the officers who conducted the search, and whether Essex Police's response was adequate on the basis of information available."
The inquest into Mr Brooks' death has opened and adjourned.
