Harlow murder: Inquest hears head injury caused death

Mr Jozwik's family have said he loved spending time with his relatives

An inquest into the death of a Polish man fatally attacked outside a takeaway has heard his death was caused by a head injury.

Arkadiusz Jozwik, 39, was killed at The Stow in Harlow, Essex, on 27 August.

Six teenagers have been arrested and released on police bail as part of a murder inquiry.

Opening and adjourning the inquest, Greater Essex Coroner Caroline Beasley-Murray said she wanted copies of police reports on the case.

She also asked for a copy of a report from the post-mortem examination carried out on Mr Jozwik - who was also known as Arek.

Because of the ongoing police investigation, Mrs Beasley-Murray said, she was not releasing his body for a funeral at the present time.

The inquest, which heard Mr Jozwik was declared dead at Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge, was adjourned until next week.

Hundreds of Poles from across England joined Harlow's residents for a vigil commemorating Mr Jozwik

On Saturday, more than 1,000 people - including Poles from across the UK - gathered for a vigil in the town commemorating Mr Jozwik.

Just hours after the march two Polish men were attacked by four or five men outside the William Aylmer pub in Kitson Way, Harlow.

Both the murder and the assault are being investigated as "a potential hate crimes", said Essex Police and Crime Commissioner Roger Hirst.
