David Van Day to stand in Thurrock Council election

Singer David Van Day has announced he will be standing for election as a local councillor.
The former pop star, who rose to fame in the 1970s as one half of duo Dollar, will stand as a Conservative in next year's poll.
As first reported by Your Thurrock, external, Van Day will contest the Aveley and Upland ward on Thurrock Council.
The seat is currently held by Tim Aker, the UKIP MEP for the East, who was elected in 2014.
Former I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here! campmate Van Day, who lives in South Ockendon, stood for the 2007 local elections in Brighton.
He said he was unable to speak about his candidacy at the present time after undergoing surgery.
