Stray firework causes New Year's Eve fire in Essex

Firefighters believe a stray firework caused the blaze to spread

A stray firework is thought to have caused a blaze that spread from a bush to a shed and a garage.

Essex Fire and Rescue Service was called to reports of bushes on fire in Leeward Road, South Woodham Ferrers, at 00:12 GMT.

Crews extinguished the fire by 01:29 and remained at the scene until 03:10 to check for hotspots.

The control team took more than 50 calls in three hours from 23:00 on New Year's Eve.
