George Gilbey: More than £3k raised for Gogglebox star's funeral

More than £3,000 has been raised towards Gogglebox star George Gilbey's funeral and his young daughter after he died following a fall at work in Essex.

A fundraiser set up by friends and family has so far raised £3,255, to give the reality TV personality the "send off he deserves".

Gilbey, 40, appeared on the popular Channel 4 show between 2013 and 2018.

A man in his 40s has been released under investigation after being arrested by police.

Essex Police arrived at Shoeburyness, near Southend-on-Sea, on 27 March after reports a man had fallen from height.

Gilbey, a self-employed electrician, died at the scene.

First reported in the Echo, external, a spokesperson on the online page trying to raise money, said: "I know his passing has come to a shock for a lot of people. He was such a big character in life and is going to be sorely missed by friends, family and all who knew him.

"I think I can safely say we all enjoyed watching him on Gogglebox, Big Brother and all his other TV appearances."
