South Gloucestershire schools funding package revealed

A £30m package of school improvements over three years has been unveiled in South Gloucestershire.

South Gloucestershire Council said primary schools in Wick, Hambrook, Stoke Gifford and Filton would be transformed by the cash.

The investment would also see the authority spending £7m over the same period for high priority work including roofing, rewiring and heating.

Some £4.6m is also planned for investment in secondary schools.

The unitary authority said it would spend £2.3m on ensuring there were enough primary school places due to increased pupil numbers.

Conservative councillor for Almondsbury, Sheila Cook, said: "The council's major investment package coupled with the introduction of the pupil premium and the confirmed £19m transformation of Winterbourne International Academy shows that there is no sign of investment slowing in the district's children and young people."
