New Gloucestershire homes plans turned down

Plans for 200 new homes on the outskirts of Gloucester have been thrown out.

Stroud councillors rejected the proposals for Sellars Farm, in Hardwicke, at a meeting on Tuesday.

The plans had previously been recommended for approval by officers from the Conservative-run authority.

A spokesman for the developer Robert Hitchins Ltd said the firm was considering its position.

Hardwicke councillor Graham Littleton, Conservative, said: "The parish and the community are totally against this application, mainly on the grounds that the infrastructure is inadequate to service that development.

"The school takes 420 pupils and on the roll at the moment there's 417... there's no room to expand the school any further.

"I am totally against, and so is the community, any further development between the A38 and the canal because, purely, the infrastructure cannot support it."
