Comments sought on new homes plan for Stroud area

Six areas in and around Stroud have been identified as potential sites for 3,200 new homes.

The district council now wants public comments on its proposals, made as part of the authority's 15-year plan.

Formally known as the Core Strategy, it identifies key locations in the district for the growth of housing and jobs until 2026.

A six-week consultation starts on Monday and the council is looking for feedback on the proposals.

'Passions roused'

It also believes the plan can encourage the creation of 6,400 jobs.

The locations proposed are at Hunts Grove, north east Cam, to the west of Stonehouse and along the Stroud Valleys, at Aston Down and at Sharpness.

Councillor Barbara Tait said the council had to plan for future generations and not having a plan was "not an option".

'Not surprisingly passions have been roused about these proposals.

"When it comes to housing, virtually everyone agrees that we need more of it, but when it comes to identifying where it should go, it will always be controversial.

"There is no doubt that the final plans will not please everyone but I would still encourage people to continue to take part constructively in this process and help shape a positive future for our district."
